How to Drive Traffic to Your New Website

Optimizing your website for mobile searchers, creating quality content, writing guest blogs, and creating leads on social media can all help you drive traffic to your website.

In just 60 seconds, 500 hours of video are uploaded on YouTube, 1,440 WordPress posts are published, and 3.3 million Facebook posts are shared.

Building a successful online brand from scratch is intimidating, especially if you’ve never done it before. In the overcrowded digital marketing landscape, where millions of new content pieces are published daily, getting your site noticed may seem impossible.

You need to have a solid strategy to raise yourself above your competition and drive traffic to your site. Here are a few tips I've learned from my time at Technivorz that can help you increase your website traffic.

Optimize for Mobile Searchers

More than half of all website traffic is through mobile, a number that increases each year. This makes it necessary for businesses to create websites that cater to these mobile users.

To make people’s browsing experience more pleasant, Google recently rolled out its Mobile-First Index. From now on, the search engine will first audit the mobile version of your site. So, to rank high and boost user experience, your site needs to be optimized for mobile searchers.

Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test will tell you if your site is optimized for mobile and even give you custom recommendations to improve your site’s performance.

If there’s still room for improvement, here are a few mobile-optimization tactics to keep in mind:

  • Boost your website speed. For example, you could use Google’s Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). As a stripped-down form of HTML, these pages are designed to increase the overall readability of your content on mobile devices and load faster than your regular pages.
  • Make sure your content is managed properly on mobile devices. For example, use HTML5 instead of Flash because Apple no longer supports Flash. Second, make sure your popups aren’t overly intrusive. They should never block a user from getting the desired information. Most importantly, make your content finger-friendly by choosing the right tap targets and fonts.

As more people search on mobile, it’s become essential for websites to be mobile-friendly.

Create Quality Content

Content marketing is a key aspect of your SEO strategy. It gives you the opportunity to drive organic traffic to your site and earn high-quality links from the authoritative sites in your niche.

However, just writing a piece of content is not enough to get it noticed and motivate people to click on it. Generic, self-purposed articles on your blog don’t work anymore.

To engage a reader, every blog post needs to be authentic, exciting, educational, and easy-to-digest.

Here are a few tactics that will help you improve your content creation and promotion:

Repurpose Your Content

If one of your first blog posts gained lots of shares and traffic, why not convert it into another format?

You could turn your guide into a SlideShare, make a video out of a case study, or even turn your article into an infographic.

When done right, content transformation can boost the exposure of your posts and help you appeal to different groups of users.

Create Long-Form Content

Long-form content performs better than its shorter alternatives.

For example, a 2,500-word article or a 4-minute video may help you rank higher in the SERPs and get more high-quality links and social media shares than a 500-word article or 30-second video.

Of course, this doesn’t mean you should spam your content with a bunch of irrelevant information just to increase the number of words or time.

Long-form blog posts should be highly informative and solve readers’ problems. They need to be designed properly, too.

When writing a long-form article, use relevant images or gifs, break it down into smaller paragraphs, and use headings to help people follow it effortlessly from beginning to end.

Experiment With the Types of Content

Creating high-quality articles is the backbone of your content marketing strategy.

Informative articles are highly valuable resources and are shared and linked to extensively. However, if you want to boost website traffic, you need to try different forms of content.

Videos, infographics, and comprehensive guides are notable traffic boosters. You should also harness the power of podcasts. If you’re still not ready to grab a microphone and start your own podcast, you can connect with authoritative people in your niche and participate in their podcasts as a guest.

Having quality content is essential in driving traffic to your site.

Write High-Quality Guest Posts

Guest blogging is still one of the most powerful SEO strategies. However, not every guest post you publish is the same.

Just like your blog post, each guest post you create needs to be interesting to the blog’s readers, highly informative, and backed with relevant data and resources.

Here is how to make your guest posts more valuable.

Audit the Quality of the Site

Make sure the site is relevant to your niche. When searching for your guest blogging opportunities manually, pay attention to how they appear in the SERPs.

If the site has spammy titles and meta descriptions or doesn’t have them at all, you should probably skip it.

The site’s domain authority, engagement rates rankings, and the overall design may also tell you if it is worth writing for.

Write Upside-Down Guest Posts

When writing a guest post on major sites, you usually add a link to your site in the author bio section. But, have you ever wondered how many people really pay attention to this box, which is usually placed at the bottom of the page?

If readers don’t see a link to your site, they won’t click on it, either. Luckily, there’s a way to fix that.

Once you write a great guest post, you should include a “valuable resource” section on it and list several links that may be helpful to your readers. Of course, one of those links should be your resource related to the topic.

Guest blogging gets your name out there and encourages people to click through to your website.

Get the Most From Social Networks

Social media is an essential investment for businesses of any size.

You probably use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, or Pinterest to give your new site a boost. However, how many qualified leads and conversions do these channels bring you?

To get the most out of these networks, you need to optimize them properly.

Create Effective Social Media Snippets

When promoting your content on social networks, you’ll probably write something like: “Just published a new blog post. Check it out!“ However, this is not enough to spark people’s interest.

To intrigue followers and encourage them to click on your link, you need to boost your social media snippets and add valuable content to your posts.

It could be important statistics, quotes, or even a bulleted list of the most important tips from the article. Such an insightful approach to content promotion will likely bring you more clicks.

Share Your Posts Strategically

The best time to post on Instagram is between 8 and 9 a.m., while you should post on Facebook at 3 p.m. to get more clicks. Of course, this depends on your audience and their habits.

Conduct thorough research to see when your followers are online, and determine the best times to engage them.

You can then schedule your posts – social media management tools can save a lot of time and effort.

Make Your Content Easy to Share

People’s engagement with your content starts with your site. When creating a blog, make sure you add easy-to-spot social sharing buttons and include clear calls-to-action (CTAs) to inspire people to share your content.

You could even leverage “Click to Tweet“ links to bring numerous shares to your posts. This could be a quote from an expert, a valuable piece of advice, or a statistic – find something attention-grabbing in your post and turn it into a tweetable link.

Leveraging your social media to drive traffic to your website is essential.

Increase Traffic to Your Website

  • Create a mobile-friendly site
  • Write quality content
  • Publish guest posts

Using these tips will ensure more people visit your website.
