You can build links to your site by using visual content, leveraging guest posting, replacing broken links, looking for mentions, creating listicles, and using email outreach. Building links with these strategies will help your business rank higher on Google.
Does link-building still have as significant of an impact on SEO as it once did?
Many website owners and marketers struggle to find an answer to this question. According to Google, the three most important ranking factors are your content, links pointing to your site, and RankBrain.
So, it is important to build links to your site.
Are All Links Equally Good?
This includes the use of black-hat techniques such as buying and selling links, excessive cross-linking (“You link to me, and I’ll link to you”), or using automated programs to create backlinks.
Essentially, none of these schemes will do you any good if you’re looking for long-term rewards. Instead, Google might penalize you and ban your site from appearing in search results.
So, how can you build quality links, then?
You’ll need to employ strategies to earn backlinks naturally or organically. This isn’t always easy. Of course, links from high-authority sites are more valuable, but it takes a lot of time and effort to acquire them. So, in this post, we’ll take a look at how to build links to your site that can help you rank higher on Google.
How to Build Quality Backlinks
Links are an important ranking factor because they signify that the content on your site is worth citing for reference. In other words, links signify that your content is valuable and trustworthy; when high-authority sites link to your content, your credibility increases manifold.
A study by Backlinko that analyzed 1 million Google search results found that backlinks are one of the most important factors that affect rankings. So, it’s quite easy to see that link-building is an essential SEO technique. Here’s how to build links using some effective white-hat techniques.
1. Use Visual Content
Visual content such as infographics are great for building quality backlinks to your site.
You can create engaging and informative infographics related to your niche and share them with high-authority sites that are likely to be interested in publishing them.

It’s a good idea to send a short infographic description (unique for each publication) that the site can publish along with the infographic. When it attributes the infographic to your site, you will be able to gain a valuable backlink.
2. Leverage Guest Posting
Good old guest posting never goes out of fashion as a solid strategy to build valuable backlinks to your site. However, there are a few things you need to keep in mind when you create guest posts.
Make sure that the topic you pitch to a publication is relevant to its niche and audience. Also, make sure that your post is informative, engaging, and adheres to the guest posting guidelines of the publication.
Don’t make your guest posts overly promotional. Include a link to your site that’s relevant to the information you’ve covered in the post.
All of this will increase your chances of these publications accepting your guest posts, which can help you gain quality backlinks.
3. Replace Broken Links
This is a great strategy to build quality backlinks as well as add value to other people’s websites. You’re not just asking them to link to you instead; you’re helping them replace broken links on their site by linking to a relevant page on your site.
So, how exactly can you achieve this? Add the Chrome extension “Check My Links” to your browser. This extension will crawl through the content on any page that you open on your Chrome browser and highlight the broken links.

Once you’ve identified a broken link, send an email to the website owner to inform him or her about it. In the same email, mention how a link to a relevant article on your site might be a suitable replacement for it.
4. Look for Mentions
A great way to gain some quality backlinks is to convert your brand mentions into links.
For example, there could be certain sites or bloggers who have mentioned your brand in their content but haven’t linked to you. Why not reach out to these bloggers or site owners and ask for a link along with the mention?
You can use platforms such as Mention to find out who’s talking about you on the web and social media.
You can then identify the ones who are worth reaching out to for a backlink.
If someone is already mentioning you, the likelihood of him or her being willing to link to you is high.
5. Create Listicles
Listicles (or list posts) are articles that contain a numbered list of things such as techniques, tips, reasons, and examples.
For example, an article about the “Top 10 Reasons to Visit Thailand” or “15 Great Ways to Cook Eggs” would qualify as listicles. Here are some more examples:
Listicles are filled with a ton of useful information packed into easily readable chunks. Because of this reason, such posts get a lot of social shares and are linked quite often by other sites.
A study by BuzzSumo and Moz that analyzed more than 1 million articles found that list posts generate the maximum number of backlinks. They outperformed other types of content, including infographics, quizzes, and videos.
So, create exciting and informative list posts related to your niche to increase your chances of gaining backlinks.
6. Use Email Outreach
Use email outreach to find and connect with people who are more likely to link to your content.
To do this, first run a search on Google using your focus keyword for a particular article for which you want to gain backlinks. Then copy the URL of the first search result that appears and check for its backlinks using a tool such as SpyFu.
For example, when I run a search for “keto desserts,” the first result I see is from Diet Doctor.
Then, all I need to do is copy the URL and check its backlinks on SpyFu.
You’ll then get to see a complete list of all the domains that link to this page. Make a note of the high-authority sites from this list using the Domain Strength parameter. The higher this is, the better.
Next, find the email addresses of those site owners, and email them with a personalized pitch asking them to link to a relevant article on your site.
Remember to make sure that the sites you reach out to you are relevant to your niche. Otherwise, backlinks from them won’t add any real value to your SEO efforts.
Quality Backlinks Help You Rank Higher
Building quality backlinks to your site is not easy and requires a lot of time and effort. However, once you’re able to gain a large number of good-quality backlinks, it can make a huge difference to your rankings.
After all, quality backlinks are one of the most important ranking factors on Google. So, leverage the strategies mentioned above to take your SEO game to the next level.
