Whitesmith was hired by Ably, a real-time messaging service start-up, to assist with the maintenance of a site built using Ruby on Rails. The company's CEO and co-founder stated that they no longer wished to manage the site in-house, and thus sought a reliable development team. Whitesmith was chosen due to their technical proficiency, cost-effectiveness, and the fact that they were also based in London. The collaboration began in January 2015, with Whitesmith working closely with Ably's team on Rails development. They provided four to five members, including front-end experts and Rails developers.

Whitesmith was contracted by Trinity Mirror, a large traditional publishing company in the UK, to enhance the company's image and establish it as a leader in the tech and digital media arena. The company was seeking more creative digital content, and Whitesmith was chosen to implement this work. They worked on several projects, including tracking potential candidates' Twitter accounts during the UK election and tracking the Twitter accounts of nine international football leagues. They also built a bot that checked accounts every five minutes, presenting visually appealing graphs online. The collaboration began in September 2014, with projects ranging in cost from £5,000 to £25,000.
