Speck Design

Speck Design was hired by a smart home device company to design and physically build a prototype. The company had already created mock-up designs which they presented to Speck Design. Using their expertise and the key technology, Miro, Speck Design successfully built the product. A team of four from Speck Design, including a project manager, an account manager, and two engineers, were assigned to the project. The project lasted for a year, from July 2022 to July 2023, and the company invested between $100,000–$200,000.

A networking products company engaged Speck Design for product design and research. Speck Design was involved in various stages of the project, including concept development, detail design, building quick prototypes, and test coordination. They used SolidWorks and GoEngineer for modeling and Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoints for presentation and engineering calculations. The team from Speck Design varied in size, starting with 2-3 engineers and scaling up to 15 as the design matured. The collaboration began in 2000 and is ongoing, with the networking company investing between $5 million-$10 million.

SwellStop, a medical device start-up, hired Speck Design for product design and development. The goal was to optimize their existing prototype for eventual production and deployment in a small clinical trial. Speck Design acted in an advisory role, providing strategic support and direction. They also explored alternative approaches to achieving the desired mechanism of action and reviewed the existing design, identifying unnecessary or sub-optimal features. The main team members from Speck Design were the President/CEO and the Senior Director Product Development Strategy. They also helped in preparing supplementary resources for the company's NSF SBIR application.
