Smart Data

Smart Data was hired by iDocData Software to convert their existing medical documentation software from a client/server model to a web-based application. The goal was to allow for easier scaling and support across multiple offices and hospitals. The original software, developed with Java and XML, was successfully converted to React and Json by Smart Data without disrupting the underlying data structure or impacting patient medical records. The updated software was also interfaced with Epic, a leading electronic medical records system, using an HL-7 interface, and the data was stored and accessed using an AWS cloud server. The project was complex, requiring the conversion of a complex data structure customized to multiple physicians and surgeons, all while ensuring no disruption to patient care. Despite these challenges, Smart Data successfully recreated the software's key feature that allowed for customization of each physician's UI and document structure. The project was executed by a team of five from Smart Data, including a scrum master and multiple developers. Over time, the team composition changed and the project is currently being managed using a hybrid-model with developers based in the U.S. and India. The client was impressed with Smart Data's agile development process, which was a key deciding factor in their selection.
