Highlights from Recent Projects
Natural Apptitude was hired by the University College London's Extreme Citizen Science Group to develop a standalone module of software to provide a visual interface for project design. The software was designed as a persistent web application with platform agnosticism and offline capabilities. The project was completed within a three-month delivery schedule. The team at Natural Apptitude demonstrated a strong understanding of the work and citizen science, flexibility, and a clear understanding of the project's challenges. Two staff members from Natural Apptitude worked on the project, with Dave Kilbey acting as a liaison for business purposes and making decisions, and Joe Woodhouse leading on the development.
The conservation charity PTES hired Natural Apptitude to develop a simple, easy-to-use hedge survey app to help farmers manage their hedges. The app was designed to guide management advice feedback and map it on a simple map to facilitate farmers in writing farm-scale hedge management plans. Natural Apptitude was selected for their experience with geospatial survey apps, understanding of natural history recording, and their ability to deliver within a short timeframe. Three members from Natural Apptitude worked on the project, including Steve F. as the main contact and developer, Dave K. overseeing the project, and Jamie working on design.
Butterfly Conservation, a charity dedicated to saving and conserving butterflies, moths, and the environment, hired Natural Apptitude to create a new framework for their website and app to grow their outreach and citizen science activities. The project involved creating a citizen science smartphone application and a supporting website for their national Big Butterfly Count project. Natural Apptitude was chosen for their mix of design skills, development expertise, and deep knowledge of citizen science projects. The team worked closely with Butterfly Conservation at each stage of the process to ensure that the products met all of the project objectives. Three people from Natural Apptitude worked on the project, including a project manager, a developer, and a designer.
