Natural Apptitude

Natural Apptitude was hired by University College London’s Extreme Citizen Science Group (UCL-ExCiteS) to develop a standalone software module for Sapelli, a data gathering tool used in participatory research projects. The project aimed to improve the tool's usability, especially for researchers setting up new projects. Natural Apptitude was chosen for their deep understanding of citizen science and flexibility of approach. They developed the software as a persistent web application, ensuring platform agnosticism and offline capabilities. The project was completed within a short, three-month delivery schedule.

Butterfly Conservation, a charity focused on saving and conserving butterflies and moths, hired Natural Apptitude for web and app development. Their outdated website and app were not equipped to handle the increasing traffic volumes and were no longer fit for purpose. Natural Apptitude was selected for their design skills, development expertise, and knowledge of large citizen science projects. They designed and built a new website and a hybrid smartphone application for the Big Butterfly Count project, the world's largest citizen science project focusing on butterflies.

PTES, a conservation charity, engaged Natural Apptitude to develop a simple, user-friendly hedge survey app for farmers. The app was designed to help farmers manage their hedges on a traditional hedge lifecycle and guide management advice feedback. Natural Apptitude was chosen for their experience with geospatial survey apps, understanding of natural history recording, and previous success with a hedgerow app. Despite a tight timeline, they successfully delivered the project, maintaining the PTES brand and creating the app logo.
