Highlights from Recent Projects
Design 1st was hired by an environmental services organization to design and manufacture a waterproof LED housing for a UV-emitting glass technology project. The housing needed to be completely waterproof and capable of withstanding submersion in the ocean at a depth of 10m for six months. Design 1st was chosen due to their high ratings, budget-friendly pricing, and alignment with company values. A team of 2-5 employees worked on this project, which involved designing and manufacturing a waterproof housing for LEDs and the glass lens that was durable and capable of good heat transfer. The housing was designed to be resistant to high pressure at 10m depth.
BlueKit Software, an educational learning platform company, engaged Design 1st to design a custom cellular IoT device based on the ESP32 platform. The device needed to meet BlueKit's functional, usability, and durability needs and be ready for large-scale production. Design 1st was chosen due to their high ratings, proximity to BlueKit's location, and value for cost. A team of 6-10 employees worked on the project, which involved end-to-end industrial design and hardware engineering of the IoT device. The project included multiple phases, including discovery and requirements definition, concept development and industrial design, engineering and prototyping, testing and iteration, and design for manufacturing and production preparation.
Design 1st was hired by an engineering company to redesign a complex product line. The project involved integrating the load frame and extensive electronics into a much smaller and more efficient form factor that would be user-friendly for applications in extreme environments. Design 1st was chosen after an online search and interviews with several firms, as they were found to be the most knowledgeable and straightforward. A team of four teammates worked on the project, which cost the engineering company $300,000 and was completed from January to December 2024.
