Highlights from Recent Projects
CrossComm collaborated with an educational startup to develop an AR app. The app, designed for Microsoft HoloLens, allows users to identify surface anatomical markers of a person and adjust an in-app anatomical model to match the individual. The project also involved navigating the client's intellectual property related to 3D rendering and customization. The team, consisting of a program manager, lead immersive developer, 3D artist, and interface designer, worked closely with the client since December 2021, with the project still ongoing. The client invested over $100,000 in the partnership.
In another project, CrossComm partnered with Karmanos Cancer Institute to engage students interested in STEM careers. The project, FocuSSTEM NextGen, was initially an in-person program but shifted to virtual platforms due to the COVID-19 pandemic. CrossComm helped create virtual experiences in operating rooms, ICUs, and research labs using VR headsets. As the pandemic continued, the team proposed using AR technology for broader accessibility. The project, which started in June 2020, has since evolved into other initiatives, with the client investing around $100,000.
For a software and market research provider, CrossComm developed a VR experience for one of the client's conferences. The team received visual assets for the 3D experience and built the necessary software. Two team members from CrossComm attended the conference to facilitate the VR experience. The client's end-users accessed the software using Oculus headsets. The project, which ran from July to September 2022, cost the client about $50,000.
