Cast Iron Coding was hired by the University of Minnesota Press to build a digital publishing platform for scholarly monograph content. The platform, constructed in Ruby on Rails, was designed for long-form scholarship and included features such as online reading, the option to download to a PDF, dynamic social capabilities for group discussion, and interactive aspects like links and datasets. The project, which began in May 2015, was completed in March 2018. The University of Minnesota Press subsequently secured a second grant to continue platform development with Cast Iron Coding, as well as to install and train other publishers on how to use it. The total investment for this project was just under $800,000.

Ecochallenge.org, a non-profit organization focusing on sustainability education, contracted Cast Iron Coding to redevelop their eco-challenge platform. The initial goal was to expand upon their existing app, but Cast Iron Coding ended up creating an entirely new one. The new platform was built using Ruby on Rails and other technologies, and it allowed the organization to host several events each year, both private and public. After the platform was launched in September 2016, Cast Iron Coding stayed on board to add new features and support the growing user base. The total investment for this project was around $240,000, with the initial development project costing about $75,000.
