Highlights from Recent Projects
Cast Iron Coding was contracted by the University of Minnesota Press to develop a digital publishing platform for scholarly monograph content. The platform was designed to accommodate long-form scholarship, including books ranging from 50 to 100,000 words. It was built using Ruby on Rails and featured the ability to read online or download to a PDF at the publisher's discretion. Additionally, the platform included dynamic social capabilities for group discussions and interactive aspects such as links and datasets that traditional books cannot include. The platform, called Manifold Scholarship, was fully released in March 2018 and further development is ongoing. The total investment for this project was just under $800,000.
Ecochallenge.org, a nonprofit focusing on community engagement surrounding sustainability education, hired Cast Iron Coding to redevelop their eco-challenge platform. The goal was to expand the existing app to host multiple events each year. Instead of building on the existing app, Cast Iron Coding created an entirely new one using Ruby on Rails and other technologies. The new platform was launched in September 2016 and has since seen several new features added to accommodate a growing user base. The initial development project cost approximately $75,000, with a total investment reaching around $240,000. The relationship between Ecochallenge.org and Cast Iron Coding continues, with plans for future collaboration.
