Highlights from Recent Projects
9LivesData undertook a large-scale project with NEC, a Japanese IT company, to develop a backup storage device with a multi-node, scaled-out architecture. The device, which provides large storage capacity, features advanced capabilities such as de-duplication, compression, and automatic balancing. 9LivesData was instrumental in building the core architecture of the product and has continued with enhancements. The collaboration began in late 2007 or early 2008 and is ongoing, with NEC investing $5 million to $6 million annually in the project. The product is already on the market, but continues to be refined and enhanced.
For Bizerba, a company specializing in weighing products, 9LivesData was employed to modernize their retail software suite. The suite had been in use for 20 years and needed updating to a more contemporary software environment. 9LivesData supported the existing code for devices in the field, while also developing proof of concepts for new technologies to be incorporated into the new software. The collaboration began in June 2015, with a mostly static team of five people working on the project. Bizerba has invested €750,000–€1 million in the project and plans to continue the partnership in 2018.
9LivesData was hired by an enterprise IT product company to serve as the engineering team for a commercial product. The product is used by large IT enterprises to manage data between storage devices and cloud providers. 9LivesData provided engineering management and services, acting as the company's engineering department rather than simply providing additional coders. The team, comprised of around 10 full-time members, designed and developed the product's core and also directed another team responsible for UI design. The team is stable with relatively little turnover, occasionally scaling up to complete specific projects.
