To make people’s browsing experience more pleasant, Google recently rolled out its Mobile-First Index. From now on, the search engine will first audit the mobile version of your site. So, to rank high and boost user experience, your site needs to be optimized for mobile searchers.

Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test will tell you if your site is optimized for mobile and even give you custom recommendations to improve your site’s performance.

If there’s still room for improvement, here are a few mobile-optimization tactics to keep in mind:

  • Boost your website speed. For example, you could use Google’s Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). As a stripped-down form of HTML, these pages are designed to increase the overall readability of your content on mobile devices and load faster than your regular pages.
  • Make sure your content is managed properly on mobile devices. For example, use HTML5 instead of Flash because Apple no longer supports Flash. Second, make sure your popups aren’t overly intrusive. They should never block a user from getting the desired information. Most importantly, make your content finger-friendly by choosing the right tap targets and fonts.
