TELUS International was hired by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) of Ontario to modernize their healthcare billing system. TELUS International built the end-to-end functionalities of the platform, which allows healthcare institutions to submit their bills to the WSIB. The platform also includes B2B billing solutions where hospitals can securely submit a billing file. A significant improvement from this system is that 85%–90% of bills are automatically adjudicated by the system, leaving only 10% for manual processing. This streamlined process was achieved by using a few platforms such as PowerTrap and SmartAdvisor, along with a system entirely developed by TELUS International. The project started with an initial launch in 2002, followed by additional modules built over time to keep up with industry standards. The WSIB continues to invest $8 million-$10 million annually for ongoing maintenance and transaction components.
