Navigation North undertook a research and development project for the Center for Learning and Digital Access, a department within the Smithsonian Institute. The project aimed to improve the institute's digital content and its accessibility. Navigation North's task was to understand how teachers engage with online content, specifically the institute's digital educational resources. The team worked closely with teacher focus groups, conducting literature reviews and environmental scans. They also developed a better infrastructure for using the institute's material. Navigation North was praised for their ability to quickly implement teacher suggestions into the project, a rare quality that set them apart from other web development and research teams. Since the project's launch, Navigation North has continued to manage updates to the user interface and has also been hired for a separate project to examine student engagement with the platform. The Smithsonian Institute chose to work with Navigation North due to their deep understanding of how teachers and classrooms engage in digital spaces.
