The department had a custom back-office system built using COMAL, AlphaBASIC, and BASIC-PLUS, with a SQL Server developed using Visual Studio and online functions in HPE OpenVMS. Giant Software Limited built features to calculate taxpayers' liabilities through financial accounting systems effectively. They also created custom tax packages to reduce the department's workload, including one that allows tax authorities to gather information about US clients with funds abroad and process it back to the US government, the EU, and other countries.
The team from Giant Software Limited, led by Managing Director Roger, has been maintaining the department's existing systems and making changes as new laws and requirements are introduced. They continue to provide ongoing work with the department's Windows and online services. The collaboration started in 2000 and is still ongoing.
